Crafts with Cardboard: Halloween Edition

Regardless of whether you have recently moved yourself or utilized a Flint moving company, one thing's for sure: you have a huge number of boxes everywhere! A good way to get rid of leftover boxes is to seek creative ways to reuse them. Even more if you have children, using the boxes as building structures and decorations with them is an excellent family activity. So get those old boxes, gather everyone, and let’s make some spooky crafts to prepare for Halloween!

Dice Halloween Costume

This is an entertaining and easy costume, especially as a pair! Here’s what you’ll need:

Materials:

  • 2 Medium (3.0) Moving Boxes
  • White Paint
  • Black Paint or Construction Paper
  • Scissors or Box Cutter

Steps:

  1. Paint the boxes white, then let them dry.
  2. CAREFULLY! Cut out a hole in the sides and top of the boxes, for the head and arms.
  3. Find something circular to use as a stencil. A bowl or plate will work well!
  4. Trace circles onto the box and color them. Or, draw and cut circles on black paper and glue them onto the box.

Castle Archway

Corrigan Moving Castle Archway From Moving Boxes

Want to totally level up your decorations? Build an archway! These can be easily colored and constructed to match any theme!

Materials:

  • 6 Large (4.5) Moving Boxes
  • Wardrobe or mattress box (Many movers remove these larger boxes for your convenience. If your relocation is approaching, be certain to ask your moving company to not throw out these large boxes!)
  • Spray Paint (Whatever colors match your theme)
  • Tape
  • Scissors or Box Cutter

Instructions:

  • Arrange the 6 large moving boxes. Paint as desired. We chose a combination of gray and black to give a stone and brick look.
  • As those are drying, trace your chosen design on the flattened wardrobe or mattress carton. This is for the top part that bridges the two stacks of moving boxes (columns) together.
  • Utilizing scissors or a box cutter, BE CAREFUL! Take off that design.
  • Paint and decorate the top joining pieces.
  • Once dry, pile the large moving boxes on top of each other to create two pillars. Add tape to all of the seams. Color the tape for a seamless appearance.
  • Tape the top bridge part to the top and front of the two columns.

*Tip- Add bricks or weights to the inner portion of the bottom moving boxes to add stability and support to your project.

Semi-Truck Photo Booth

This build is certain to make you the envy of the neighborhood! And even better, this one seems to be much more complex than it actually is! This setup is ideal to allow little ones to enter and exit the “truck cab”, while allowing for great pictures from the front. This can be easily decorated and painted to look like any hero or villain’s vehicle, delivery truck, or favorite Flint moving company rig!

Materials:

  • 2 Wardrobe Boxes
  • 2 Medium (3.0) Moving Boxes
  • 2 Paper Plates
  • Two Paper Towel Rolls
  • Aluminum Foil or Silver Paint
  • Packing Paper or Tissue Paper
  • Box Cutter or Scissors
  • Tape
  • Spray Paint (whatever colors match your design)
  • Tablecloth (Optional) and Folding Table

Instructions:

  • Collect and color the wardrobe boxes and medium boxes in your desired color.
  • Begin by taping the wardrobe boxes to each other. Then trace where the outer doors and windshield will go. BE CAREFUL! Cut out the doors and windshield using scissors or a box cutter.
  • Use the large cardboard rectangle that you cut out for the doors to make the front grill. Paint that part of cardboard black. Use silver paint or tape to create lines to give the appearance of the truck grill.
  • Place the two medium boxes in front of the wardrobe boxes, to make the front of the truck.
  • Color or paint the paper plates with black paint or markers. Utilize either silver tape or paint to create the wheels. Secure to the flanks with tape.
  • Wrap the paper towel rolls with silver paint or aluminum foil. Wrinkle up the tissue or packing paper and put it on the top of the roll to create the appearance of exhaust exiting out of the pipes. Tape to the top rear of the wardrobe boxes.
  • We placed a tablecloth and folding table at the rear of the wardrobe boxes to make the trailer for the truck. You can do the same to match your aesthetic and decorate accordingly!
  • Add ornamentation like horns and lights to take it to the next level!

Create the spookiest home for your little vampire’s eternal slumber by transforming a wardrobe box! This coffin is a perfect photo station, or place a skeleton to make a scary prop!

Materials:

  • Wardrobe Box
  • Scissors or Box Cutter
  • Tape
  • Spray Paint (whatever colors match your concept)

Instructions:

  • While laid out on a flat surface, draw the design of your coffin. This will be the rear/inside of the coffin.

  • Paint and decorate!
